Boris

An open source DNS agent and management portal for keeping the right DNS servers set on your devices, automatically.
Currently under active development — this page will grow as the project does.

The Agent

A lightweight background agent for Windows that automatically switches your machine's DNS servers based on network context — for example, using a different resolver at the office than at home.

The Portal

A management console for defining policies and grouping devices, so administrators can control DNS behaviour across a whole fleet of machines rather than one at a time. Available as a hosted instance at getboris.au or fully self-hosted.

Open Source

Boris is open source and donation-funded, with self-hosting supported as a first-class option, not an afterthought.

Under active development

Boris is early — this is what's being worked on. Nothing here is final, and the shape of the project may change as it takes form.

Network-aware switching

DNS servers change automatically based on which network you're connected to.

Group policies

Apply rules to groups of devices, not one machine at a time.

Web portal

An admin console for managing devices, groups, and policies.

Sensible defaults

A safe fallback policy applies before enrollment, so DNS is never left unmanaged.

Hosted or self-hosted

Use the hosted portal at getboris.au, or run the whole stack yourself.

Free and open

Donation-funded, with no paid tier planned.

Coming soon

Boris is still being built. There's nothing to install or sign up for yet — check back here as the project takes shape.
